POLICE have appealed for witnesses after a Slovakian man was attacked in Barnoldswick in broad daylight.
The 36-year-old was found in St James' Square at around 6.20pm on Saturday. Because of his nationality, the police's Hate Crime Unit is leading the investigation.
Police said his injuries appeared serious at first but at hospital were discovered to not be as bad as feared.
It is hoped he will be discharged from Burnley General Hospital today.
Detectives have now appealed for anyone who may have seen the man injured, or any incident in the area, to come forward.
Two young men were arrested in connection with the incident but were not been charged and were later released on police bail.
Police said anyone with any information should contact them on 01282 425001.
