STANLEY stopper Danny Alcock is gunning to make the most of his opportunity in goal.

The 20-year-old Accrington Stanley goalkeeper was handed his Conference debut in Monday night's televised game at home to Hereford United after Jon Kennedy broke his leg in training.

And Alcock hopes he has done enough to keep his place in the starting line-up.

"It's disappointing that Jon's got an injury but, on the bright side for me, I'm playing and it was good to get a decent debut under my belt," the former Stoke City and Sunderland keeper said.

"It's frustrating when you're on the bench, but now I'm in the team I want to stay there and have a good run."

Meanwhile, manager John Coleman received a birthday boost yesterday when it was revealed Ged Brannan had not broken his wrist, as was first feared on Monday night.

An X-ray revealed the midfielder has a double fracture in his hand and damaged tendons.

Rory Prendergast was due to have a hernia operation today. He is expected to be sidelined for at least four weeks.
