Andy Lonergan was once again left on the bench as England U21's were held to a goalles draw in Azerbaijan.
After securing a 2-0 win over Wales on Friday, thanks to goals from Milner and Bent confidence was high as the youngster travelled to Baku.
Despite chance for Stead and Johnson, Peter Taylor's side were unable to break the deadlock. Both sides finished the match with 10 men as Nigel Reo Coker and Abdellayev for the home side were sent off on 77 minutes.
The result gave Azerbaijan their first point in qualifying and ended England's 100% record.
Lonergan must now continue with his impressive club form in a bid to dislodge first choice Scott Carson for the next match in March.
