VOLUNTEERS are needed to protect and enhance the countryside with the Croal-Irwell Valley Rangers.
The service, run by Bolton, Bury and Salford councils, is keen to hear from enthusiastic and energetic people aged over 18.
The work is varied -- one day volunteers could be on patrol near Peel Tower, the next trying their hand at dry stone walling or helping to run a countryside event.
Philip Harris, Bury countryside ranger, said it would appeal to people interested in conservation and countryside management: "If you are thinking about a career in the countryside, and if you have a lot of spare time and wonder if there is something locally to get involved in, then the ranger service could be just what you're looking for."

Two volunteer "task days" on dry stone walling are being held on October 20 and 24 at Philips Park, Whitefield, starting at 11am.
