TYLDESLEY Probus Club members heard the history - and some of the works - of Gilbert and Sullivan.
Alan Eaves provided a stimulating talk on Gilbert, a barrister who wrote humorous verse, and Sullivan, a chorister in the Chapel Royal, who saw their first operetta "Trial By Jury" produced by Richard D'Oyly Carte in 1875.
Their 13 works became better known as the Savoy Operas.
