A NATIONAL memorial to mark the efforts of British women during the Second World War has been backed by Bury MP David Chaytor.
He has signed a Commons motion paying tribute to the 640,000 women who served in the armed forces and the seven million in the Land Army, munitions factories, fire brigades and other wartime occupations, along with those who cared for dependants at home.
Campaigners and the National Lottery have raised the money to build the monument in Whitehall near to the Cenotaph.
