TALENT TANTRUMS: Chants of "it's a fix" and "rubbish" greeted the result of the first round heat of Radio Manchester's "Town Team" talent competition between teams from Bury and Trafford at Bury Town Hall. When the Trafford were declared winners by one point the Bury contingent in the 200-strong audience erupted into catcalls and booing.
A RIGHT HANDFUL: Bury scored five goals in their home league game with goal-less Exeter City.
SUPER TROOPERS: The landlord of the White Lion Hotel in Bolton Street, Bury, was saluted by soldiers who had provided cover following the end of the nine week long national fire service strike. Mr Harry Clarke was presented with plaques bearing the insignia of the regiments as a thank you for looking after the soldiers during their prolonged stay in the town's Drill Hall.
