SCHOOL EXPULSIONS: Bury Community Relations Council was calling a conference of local head teachers and parent-teacher groups to decide how to guard children from National Front intrusion into local schools. Its chairman, the Rev Gerald Downing, emphasised that they did not feel there was an NF problem in Bury but they wanted to be prepared should it spread to the area.
TV STAR: Films star Patrick Mower made a personal appearance on stage at the EMI Art Social Club in Knowsley Street, Bury, where he met with bingo players and signed autographs. Before leaving, he called a game of bingo.
LOST TIME: Grandfather clocks, reproduction Viennese clocks and Edwardian wall clocks were stolen from an antique shop in Rochdale Road, Bury.
NO GO STOKOE: Speculation that Bury manager Bob Stokoe would be returning to his native North East to take charge at Newcastle ended when United's boss Bill McGarry announced he was staying at St James' Park.
