I TOTALLY agree with G Dugdale (LET, October 7) that bringing back National Service would cut crime.
I have just returned from Turkey and the young men from the age of 20 years are forced to do 15 months in the armed forces unless they are at university.
And I have never had the pleasure of meeting a nicer bunch of young men.
They are respectful to adults, hard-working and I feel safer on their streets than I do here in Blackburn.
There are no youths hanging around on street corners with nothing better to do, no riding round in cars with loud music blaring out.
Youths of today in this country think they know it all.
Let's get them into the forces and sort out the men from the boys. A short, sharp shock is what they need.
