WANNABE Brierfield entrepreneur Justine Mitchell is hoping to make a clean sweep in the finals of national contest Tycoon Idol.

Justine, of Quakers View, set up her business Spotless Cleaning Services 12 months ago with her mum Jennifer Hartley and is hoping to pick up £1,000 in the competition run by Take a Break magazine.

Justine, 31, said: "My mum and I were both looking for part-time jobs and I came up with this idea.

"We put together a mailshot in areas we thought might be able to use cleaners and within two hours we had our first phone call.

"It's been a lot more successful than I would have imagined. Now we've got too much work in and are looking to expand and employ more staff."

Justine spent a couple of weeks contacting cleaning businesses and insurance firms to find out what was involved and the kind of services she could offer before sending out her mailshot.

But she did not get any professional advice and if she wins Tycoon Idol a team from management company Business Boffins will help her expand the business.

Justine said: "We thought the competition could really help us because this team can tell us about taking on new staff, health and safety, taxation and all the other issues.

"I'd no experience of running my own company. Doing the job is easy the easy bit, its keeping on top of the paperwork that's a bit of a grind.

"It's been very much a case of trial and error. I've learned as I've gone along."

Sebastian Johnson, from Business Boffins, said Justine had a good business idea, but that was not always enough to succeed.

Take A Break editor John Dale said: "We were impressed with Justine's enterprise and determination.

"She now needs guidance on how she can develop the business."

The winner will be announced next month.
