THREE youths arrested in connection with an alleged assault following a fortnight of fighting in Haslingden have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The teenagers were arrested on Wednesday, on suspicion of violent disorder following an alleged incident in Green Lane on October 1.

Police were called to the incident at around 2pm after receiving reports of a group of youths fighting outside the grounds of Haslingden High School.

The trio, who police are refusing to name, were questioned by detectives and later released without charge.

The latest arrests follow two weeks of tension around the Broadway school which reached a head on Monday when a white girl pupil was allegedly assaulted in a racist attack, behind shops in Broadway Crescent.

Two Asian pupils, aged 17 and 15 have been bailed until October 26 charged with wounding after appearing in court. Both were excluded from the school.
