A REVIEW has been launched into the effectiveness of signs warning about a low bridge after a wagon became stuck in the morning rush hour.
Coun Andy Kay, executive member for regeneration, revealed the move after the jam at Skew Bridge, in Whalley New Road, Blackburn, at 8.30am yesterday.
David Monks, 58, of Forest Freight Global Logistics, Rotherham, said he turned around the bend and was shocked to be faced with the bridge. His lorry became stuck under the 14ft 9in bridge.
Police diverted traffic for more than an hour. At 9.30am the road was closed by the recovery company. It was another hour before the lorry was removed.
Mr Monks said there was only one warning sign at Brownhill roundabout, roughly half a mile back.
Police Inspector Stuart Bruce also called for urgent action to improve warning signs around the area.
Coun Kay said the council would looking into whether signs were adequate.
