LEIGH RU re-gained the Brian Drummond Memorial Trophy and retained their undefeated league record with a 29-18 win at Warrington,
Poor Leigh defensive play allowed Warrington early possession and although they missed a penalty, they took the lead with a try in the corner.
Leigh replied when a strong run from winger Oldham saw substitute stand-off Peacock cross for a try which Wilcock converted.
Both sides missed penalty chances but the Warrington pack were retaining ball possession resulting in a second try, which was converted to regain the lead. A Wilcock penalty reduced the deficit to 12-10 at half-time.
As the Warrington pack tired, the Leigh forwards began to dominate but the poor handling continued and several try-scoring opportunities were missed. In a tense final quarter, both sides converted two penalties each, giving the home side a narrow 18-16 advantage.
The Leigh pack were now applying heavy pressure on the Warrington eight and substitute Eckersley calmly dropped a goal, and a further Wilcock penalty opened up a 22-18 lead for the visitors. Leigh clinched it in the final minutes when a searing break by Oldham, one of several during the game, produced a fine try and a Wilcock conversion.
Leigh Seconds lost their 100 per cent league record, drawing 24-24 against an experienced Winnington Park outfit.
The Hawks racked up 10 tries on the way to beating league leaders Colne and Nelson 58-10.
Leigh Tofts beat Heaton 22-12 while the Vets ripped Littleborough apart to win 71-0. Scorers: Dainty 3, Westwell 1 and 8 conversions, Delaney 2, Sutton 2, Billinge 1, Daniels 1, A Thompson 1.
A depleted Leigh Junior Colts side won 29-10 at Orrell and the Under 15s beat Manchester 19-10. The Under 14s produced their best performance of the season to beat Manchester 49-5. Honours ended even between Leigh Under 12s and Widnes, the match being drawn 14-14.
Leigh Under 11s travelled to Helsby for a round robin with Caldy. They beat Caldy 4-0 and Helsby 21-7.
The Under 9s were heavily beaten 55-10 by Wigan while the Under 8s dre 20-20 with the same opposition. The Under 7s also drew, 25-25.
