SEDGLEY Park player-coach Tim Fourie wants his team to use last Saturday victory over Penzance and Newlyn as the benchmark for their season.

Park came back from 17 points down to beat the Pirates 28-27 and end a run of five straight league defeats.

"Saturday's win has come and gone, now we've got to concentrate all our efforts on repeating that performance every time we play, beginning tomorrow," Fourie said.

"We've set the benchmark for ourselves; now we have to measure up to it, but I've always said there was more to come from this team, and now they are staring to show that.

"Ideally we would have preferred a league game tomorrow to keep up the momentum, but instead we face Manchester in the Powergen Cup.

"Our priority this season is the league and surviving in it, but this game will give me a chance to play the bench guys and boys from the second team.

"It will also be a useful run-out for scrum-half Dave McCormack. We'll be able to see what his fitness is like after getting over a broken arm."

Tomorrow's game could give new signing Tom Mapp a game.

Originally from Nottingham, the 27-year-old centre has joined the Tigers from National Three North side New Brighton. Mapp is the RFU rugby development officer for Greater Manchester.

"He's been training with us for a couple of weeks but has been struggling with a hamstring pull," said Fourie.

"However, he seems to have recovered from it, and we may put him on to have a look at him. I played against him last year when Lancashire played Cheshire.

"If we beat Manchester, we face Exeter or London Welsh, which would both be tough."

Meanwhile he is still searching for a second row, and looks like heading back to South Africa.

"South Africans are grafters, that's why I'm looking back home," he explained.

"I've got one CV through and I'm expecting a lot more in the next couple of weeks, I'll look at them thoroughly before making a decision.

"Preferably we'd like a young single bloke. We were considering a Kiwi, but he's married with a child."
