LEIGH RMI Chairman Bill Taylor is asking the people of Leigh to unite in the sentiment of the town's sporting feel-good factor and get behind the football club.

Taylor watched his side lose at home to Stevenage in front of just 235 paying spectators at the weekend.

But he says that with an FA Cup tie just around the corner, times are still exciting for RMI and that the club can take heart from Centurions' promotion to Super League.

"We have a lot of ambition at the club and it gives us great heart, encouragement and excitement to see the achievements of the Leigh Centurions", says the Chairman.

"Their fans have been brilliant and I hope that some of them can support us and help us to progress as well now that the rugby league season is over," he added.

RMI travel to Dagenham and Redbridge in the league on Saturday, the scene of their last victory in the Conference back in December 2003.

But while their away form has slumped to no win in 15, Hilton Park has scarcely been a happy hunting ground either, with only Forest Green Rovers biting the dust there so far this season.

"We are working hard to help our league form to pick up and the cup could be a good distraction for us", enthuses Taylor.

"We have had games against Millwall and Fulham in the past that have brought football onto the map in this town and we hope to do that again."

RMI must win their FA Cup 4th Round Qualifier on October 30 in order to make the First Round Proper, in which they can be paired against opposition from Coca-Cola Leagues 1 and 2.

But they have suffered disappointment at the final hurdle in recent years away at Moor Green and Accrington Stanley, as well as on their own patch to Worksop Town.

Their next game could ultimately be a money-spinning one and the Railwaymen will find out their fate on Monday morning at 11am when the next round draw is made.
