FIRE chiefs have issued a firework warning after a gang of youths threw a lit firework into a Burnley shop.
Fire crews were called after the yobs threw a rocket into a shop in Raglan Road at 7.55pm yesterday then ran off.
The rocket did not cause much fire damage but brought down tiles from a suspended ceiling.
Today leading firefighter Alan Ashworth warned yobs playing with fireworks of new laws which mean on the spot fines for those guilty of firework misuse.
Under Fixed Penalty Notices for Disorder, anyone found throwing fireworks, breaching a fireworks curfew, being in possession of a display firework, or being under 18 and in possession of a firework will be fined £80.
Leading firefighter Ashworth said: "Luckily there was not much fire damage, just a scorch mark on the floor and some roof tiles had come down.
"But that is not the issue.
"It was a stupid thing to do and the consequences could have been a lot worse."
