IT is some time since we had a monochrome print folio at the Prestwich Co-op Camera Club from the Lancs & Cheshire Photographic Union. But we had one on Tuesday evening.
A member of the St. Annes Photographic Society had prepared a taped commentary and he did a very good job of it. His voice came over loud and clear as he gave the titles, the owners' names, and the clubs to which they belonged. There was the occasional comment when he felt it was required.
The first ten slides had been shown at the Photographic Union of Great Britain exhibition last year and were of a higher quality. The remaining 49 were from the L & CPU 2004 exhibition.
It was interesting that nine of the first ten were portraits and, in fact, one-third of all the prints were portraits and not one was of the "glamour" kind. Most of the rest were of landscapes, buildings and bridges. Most of the latter were modern and taken from unusual angles and made very striking pictures.
A few of the landscapes were tinted in either sepia or blue to add to their atmospheric effect. Some of them also had dark, dramatic sky effects. There were no churches, neither interiors nor exteriors. There was one steam locomotive and one piece of sculpture. It made a very interesting collection.
There was some computerised treatment given to some prints but generally it was done with taste and wasn't very obvious.
Next Tuesday, there is the Annual Jessops Knockout Slide Competition. Those entering should have brought their first three slides for the first round last Tuesday. They will need another three slides for each successive round next week -- supposing that they win!
Come along and join in the fun -- everyone gets involved. Just come to the side door of the Bridge Methodist Hall, behind Radcliffe Library between 7.30 and 8pm.
