DARWEN'S MP Janet Anderson has backed new laws coming into force this week that will see people misusing fireworks face an £80 on the spot fine.
Police can now issue Fixed Penalty Notices to people setting off fireworks at night, youngsters caught with them and adults found with high-powered display fireworks.
It is now illegal for youngsters to carry fireworks in a public place.
Offenders who refuse to pay the fine will face an increased fine and court action. For the most serious offences, police will retain the power to prosecute offenders with penalties of up to £5,000 and or six months in prison.
Ms Anderson, said: "We need to make sure that fireworks are enjoyed safely."I know this is an issue which concerns very many of my constituents. That is why I backed these tough new measures in Parliament."
