YOUNGSTERS at a Rossendale school went conker bonkers to help protect the environment.
Green-fingered Year 7 pupils at Haslingden High have planted dozens of conkers. And each will take responsibility for a pot until the tree seedlings can be planted out.
Head of lower school, Lynne Platt, said: "The idea is that a new horse chestnut plantation will add to the ecology facilities already used extensively by the school."
Mrs Platt added: "The students were very enthusiastic about the whole idea and were particularly keen to create an area in the school grounds that would enhance the environment for future students and possibly their own children."
