I WANT to echo the concerns voiced by Inspector Jill Townley about the man who has had his anti-social behaviour order quashed.
This just undermines the good work the police have been doing in The West End - and as a result this man will be empowered to return to the West End in spite of a history of offences and challenges in relation to drug and car offences.
The very decision to quash the ASBO will not help this person and Insp Townley quite duly points out that this man is likely to continue offending and having a negative impact on the law abiding people who live in the area.
When this man is released he will clearly return to the West End without proper after care and will be in danger of being dragged back into crime because of the nature of the area.
He requires more specialised support and help in order to avoid him returning to a life of crime - and it has to be said that he will not get that help in The West End.
The only person who will gain will be some landlord who will make money from his rent. I am not amused about this and will undertake to write to The Home Office to point out this anomaly.
Cllr David Whitaker, Harbour Ward.
