GOLBORNE Parkside's injury-hit team produced another heroic performance to beat Haydock 24-18.
Golborne took an early 6-0 lead with a long range try from Craig Parr, goaled by Stuart Arkwright. Further injuries to Greg Dale and Carl Kelly further disrupted Golborne who were pegged back to 6-6 and then found themselves 16-6 down.
After weathering the storm, good work from teenage half backs Tommy Smith and Stuart Arkwright, Andy Simms crossed for a converted try.
Golborne regained the lead when winger Craig Timmins crosed in the corner, converted by Arkwright. With 15 minutes left Haydock levelled the game 18-18 with a penalty goal. But this only severed to spur Golborne on as they went in search for the winner. Fittingly it was the hard working Muir who found the gap to score a good try converted by Arkwright.
This Saturday Golborne are at home to Higginshaw, kick off 2.30 pm, while the second team are away at unbeaten Widnes St Maries.
Golborne U18s went down to a last minute try 26-20 to Widnes St Maries. Golborne's points came from tries by Chris Reynolds, Paul Johnson and Stuart Goulding with Goulding adding four goals.
The U15s were beaten 34-12 by Widnes St Maries and the U11s went down 24-18 to St Jude's with tries from Greg Wilde 2, Mike Kopple, Dean Pennington and Ben Currie.
