WALSHAW Conservative B continue to make headway in the Bury Amateur Billiards League.
This week they overcame the challenge from Dobbies A and now hold a commanding lead in the table as their closest rivals, Seedfield, were without a match.
In their match at Dobbies, A Rossbottom gave the leaders a tremendous start, opening up an early 60-point gap against his opponent E Jones.
Although Jones made some improvement in the latter stages, the deficit was too big and Rossbottom ran out the winner 125-71. In the second game D Samuels took on T Wilkinson.
The scores were running neck and neck until the latter stages when Samuels had a break of 39, which was immediately followed by a further 19 to finish the game 125-78.
P Spencer and P Eslick met in the final game and once again the scores were about even with Spencer in front until P Eslick had a break of 33. This was sufficient to give the visitors the game and secure the aggregate points.
St Marys A travelled to Walshaw A were B Weall gave the home side a considerable lead by defeating G Farrington 125-89.
The Walshaw side looked to be in a comfortable position, but the second game went to the visitors by the same score as M Ryder defeated R Vadasz to bring the match level.
P Turner, for the visitors, was in excellent form in the final game and M Gilmore was unable to pull back the handicap advantage as the visitors ran out 5-1 winners.
St Marys B were always in control of their match against Dobbies B.
J Garvey and P Dudley both won the opening two games while V Fox gained a consolation point for the home side.
