AS it is Ramadan I will be mostly keeping it clean this week. A testing time of year this for some of us. We get up before sunrise, have some scran and don't eat or drink again until six-ish.
Well, it's not that simple really, but going into the complexities of it all won't make much difference, because I get the feeling most people know about Ramadan and what it entails.
And those who don't know much about it will get the message when they don't see me at my favourite kebab house.
Not everyone is as ignorant as they look.
Okay, you get the odd question about whether fruit counts as food, but on the whole the masses are in the know.
No, I am not trivialising stuff, but just suggesting that things ain't as bad as they used to be when it comes to explaining everything to those not in the know.
For instance, I don't get offered any free food anymore. Or get asked if I want a coffee.
Not that I did anyway but at least I go home safe in the knowledge there was a reason I didn't today.
All things said though, getting that Eid day off twice a year still causes a problem.
It is a chance for most of us to kick old habits and become better people, I have always been told.
Understandable, and I think most people realise that fasting does teach you not to take the simplest of things in life for granted.
And at this time of year it is time to be especially good.
However, year in year out I see that some people don't learn much.
In fact they learn very little about the simplest things in life.
I promised to keep it clean and not to offend anyone, but sometimes it has to be said. And seeing as I'm the only one here I'm going to have to say it.
By which I mean the people who suddenly see the light and transform from complete nobodies to respectability. It's as if they planned it all year round.
You know who you are.
Before the letters start flooding in asking for my head on a platter - served with rare Peruvian chillies and some potatoes- listen up.
What is the point of being okay for some time and a complete tearaway for the rest? It doesn't make sense to me or to anyone else.
Why not be nice and well-mannered all year round like the rest of us?
If you didn't mess around in the first place you wouldn't need to go through this transformation.
And for those of us who didn't commit any of the carnal sins...we have to listen to it.
Well, it's better late than never and we shouldn't mock people just because they have become better human beings. Albeit only for a while!
