BURY'S two MPs are today due to quiz health chiefs responsible for drawing up plans to close the special care baby unit at Fairfield Hospital.
Bury North MP David Chaytor and Bury South MP Ivan Lewis are to meet with Mr Neil Goodwin, chief executive of Greater Manchester Strategic Health Authority, which has put forward the recommendations to reduce maternity and children's services at Fairfield.
The meeting comes six days after almost 3,000 people marched through the town centre in protest over the proposals. Mr Chaytor, MP for Bury North, said: "The Greater Manchester Strategic Health Authority can now be left in no doubt about the strength of feeling on this issue and must consider this carefully before deciding whether to continue with the planned public consultation exercise later this year.'
