THE PEOPLE of Penwortham have shown their support for the Citizen's third annual Tins and Toys Christmas Appeal in support of Preston and South Ribble's women's refuges.
Officers at Penwortham Town Council, Kingsfold Drive, Penwortham, rallied round this weekend to collect a sack full of goodies to donate to the appeal.
Steve Caswell, Penwortham town manager, said: "It's important to help support the people that need supporting in certain periods of their lives.
"At this time of year when it's a special time for most we must remember the people less fortunate than ourselves.
"It's a worthy appeal and one that we're pleased to support."
The appeal, which was officially launched last week, aims to help victims of domestic violence who have sought refuge in centres in Preston and South Ribble.
In the past three years it has helped dozens of women and children with a little festive cheer.
Howard Gore, mayor of Penwortham and leader of South Ribble Borough Council, said: "I'm aware of how successful last year's appeal was and I would encourage all readers to get involved this Christmas.
"I will definitely be supporting the campaign."
Items suitable for our appeal are children's toys, games and books and tinned/non-perishable foods.
All we ask is that toys are new and unwrapped and tins are within their sell-by date. Toiletries for the mothers would also be appreciated.
Donated goods can be dropped off at our Winckley Square offices, in Chapel Street, or give us a ring on 01772 255523 and we will arrange for them to be picked up. Local businesses can help too.
