A PADIHAM councillor is warning that a notorious stretch of road is an 'accident waiting to happen.'
Marcus Johnstone is campaigning for traffic lights at the junction of Slade Lane and the Padiham by-pass because of the danger.
However, he said he has been told by county council bosses they cannot afford the £60,000 to pay for the lights.
Coun Johnstone said: "You take your life into your hands every time you turn from Slade Lane on to the Padiham by-pass and I am concerned this is an accident waiting to happen.
"The Padiham by-pass is an exceedingly fast road and motorists coming out of Slade Lane are having to drive across the road with oncoming traffic sometimes travelling at motorway speeds. I only hope we can resolve this problem before there is a serious accident. I will continue pressing for traffic lights at this junction as a matter of urgency."
