RECORDS tumbled as Hoppers posted their biggest ever score in a competitive game after passing the century mark against the hapless Aldwinians in the second round of the Powergen Intermediate Cup.
The Manchester side play their rugby in the North Lancs and Cumbria League, two levels below Hoppers.
Although they competed Hoppers took advantage of some brittle tackling, and their marauding back row consistently punched holes in midfield while the slick passing and support play of the backs was at times breathtaking.
The home side made their intentions clear from the off when Aldwinians' kick-off was safely fielded and a sweeping movement resulted in a try from Paul Bailey without the opposition laying a hand on the ball.
Three more tries followed in the first 12 minutes before the visitors managed to get on to the scoreboard with a penalty from Bamber.
Another followed some ten minutes later but Anton Cramant completed a hat-trick of tries to make the half-time score 36-6.
After the break came the deluge. Aldwinians managed to breech Hoppers' line for only the second time this season but tries came thick and fast for the home side and ten tries were added to the six scored in the first period.
Hoppers try scorers were: Cramant (3), M Lough (3), Bailey (2), Flynn (2), A Lough, Houston, O'Toole, Hamilton, Morton and Deakin with one apiece, Paul Bailey converting 12.
The final try in injury time, embarrassed the score board operator with only two digits available, the final score reading 04-13!
On Saturday Hoppers resume league action with a testing trip to leaders Hull Ionians.
