A PLAN to build two huge wind turbines on Broadhead Moor, Edgworth, has been blocked.
Angry residents packed Blackburn with Darwen Council chamber as the scheme went before its planning and highways committee.
Councillors unanimously refused the turbines - 95 metres high and planned for land off Uglow Farm, Broadhead Road - as they were a blight the landscape.
They also said that if they backed the plan, they would have no choice but to allow others in the future.
Applicants Julia and Angus Dootson agreed to carry out the scheme for environmental reasons after being approached by UK wind farm operator National Wind Power.
At the meeting Mrs Dootson said the wind turbines would benefit the environment and would help in the government's fight against global warming.
She said the turbines would cut greenhouse gas emissions by generating enough energy annually to supply 1,460 homes.
Almost all members of the committee spoke against the application.
