IN my Sunday newspaper reference was made to two individuals who committed suicide after borrowing large sums of money from two banks.
The article was headed 'Banks in dock for card debt suicides' and 'Tragic cases spark MP's anger over irresponsible lending'.
Reference was made to these banks expecting to be savaged by the Commons Treasury select committee, who were alarmed in Britain's soaring indebtedness.
While I agree banks have a responsibility to exchange information on customers who borrow large sums there is also a responsibility on individuals not to borrow above their means.
The only people this should not apply to are those starting up new businesses whose plans are usually examined minutely by the banks.
