TALKS are due to start over whether a new 'super school' for Pendle should be built on playing fields in Brierfield.
Pendle borough council executive members have given the go-ahead for council chief executive Stephen Barnes to start official discussions with Lancashire County Council over the idea to build on Bent Head playing fields.
The new secondary school would replace Mansfield High School and Edge End High School as part of the £150million Building Schools for the Future scheme.
Pendle councillors hope the county will give them better sports facilities in return for the land.
Councillor Nawaz Ahmed (LibDem, Brierfield) said: "This is a boost for Brierfield to have brand new schools."
Councillor Mahboob Ahmed (LibDem, Whitefield) added: "I'm sure Nelson will benefit as well."
