SCIENTISTS in the US have developed software that is able to read a printed document and tell you which printer was used. The technique is set to be used to help in the fight against forgeries of passports, bank notes and other important documents.

The process works by studying the way ink is printed onto a page as each printer uses a slightly different technique, and the software is able to analyse this.

Researchers at Purdue University in Indiana say they will soon be able to reverse the process and make printers leave a digital signature so they can be traced.

COMPUTER users are getting wise to the threat that spyware has on their PCs, claims a recent report.

Webroot Software has followed the use of spyware, which sits on your computer and can track the sites you visit and force adverts to display on your screen.

They claim that although they have tracked over 80 million instances of the intrusive software this year, computer users are making more of an effort to protect their machines.

Software is available that will check your computer and clean out the spyware files.

NOW here is a website that I bet you can't resist visiting, yournotme.com. It allows you to type in your name and see how many other people in the UK share it with you, so you can see just how unique, or not, you are. The site is based on the electoral register of 2001 and allows you to leave a message behind should anyone match you when they visit the site.
