PENDLE MP Gordon Prentice has called on Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon to make a Commons statement on the sale of the former Royal Navy submarine that caught fire.
The HMCS Chicoutimi had to be rescued off Ireland by British ships and taken to Britain's main submarine base near Glasgow.
Mr Prentice, speaking at Westminster, said HMCS Chicoutimi "caught fire, lost power as sparks as big as golf balls ricocheted up and down its interior."
He said the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa had launched an inquiry because of the huge public concern and that Mr Hoon should tell MPs about what has happened.
Leader of the Commons, Peter Hain, told Mr Prentice he was right to raise the issue and should follow it up with Mr Hoon.
