TWO teenagers were seriously ill in hospital today after car crash.
Driver Junaid Akhlaq, 19, of Larch Street, Nelson and passenger Nadeem Khan, 17, of Temple Street, Nelson, both suffered head injuries in the crash in Halifax Road, Nelson.
Police said a silver Honda Civic driven by Junaid Akhlaq was travelling along Halifax Road at about 8.20pm yesterday.
It went out of control near the junction with Chapelhouse Road and collided with a garden wall and two parked cars.
Both men were thrown from the vehicle and suffered head injuries. They were taken by ambulance to Burnley General Hospital where they were today in a serious condition.
The accident took place a few hundred yards away from where a motorcyclist was killed earlier this year.
Popular Jon Glover lost his life in June after colliding with a stationary three and a half ton van while trying to pass a car coming down the road.
Today residents said action needed to be taken to prevent further accidents in the road.
Robin Gill, of Halifax Road, said: "Accidents are a problem.
"For people like myself, who have got two young children, it is a worry.
"I have been living here for nine years and the problem has got worse in that time. It's quite frightening."
Neighbour Mark Bailey, of Halifax Road, said councillors had promised action but nothing had been done.
He said: "We were told we would definitely have something on this road, like speed bumps.
"But so far nothing's happened."
Police are appealing for witnesses.
