THE people of Bury should be very proud of themselves after their show of support for the protest against the closures at Fairfield Hospital. It was very heartening to see that they, at least, do put life before money.

Even though some of these proposals are rightly for future improvements to the hospital, who in their right mind would let sick children be taken to a hospital more than nine miles away (in the case of Rawtenstall patients it would be 14 miles) during the rush hour? And while that is taking place, just hoping that there is another ambulance available for other sick children and babies.

What are these people thinking of and who pays them to make these decisions?

The people of the borough have made their voices heard. Surely someone will listen now and do the right thing. They must either scrap this idea entirely or have a re-think, because logic has gone out the window
