OVER the last few weeks, I have heard two different stories about people who have just served a prison sentence.

Both these ex-prisoners have said that they enjoyed their time in jail. There were fitted carpets, good food, Playstations etc, etc.

Is it any wonder we have such a high crime rate when people can spend time in a five-star hotel (prison) at the expense of us the taxpayer?

Some offenders no doubt come from homes that leave a lot to be desired. Perhaps there is no decent food, heating or other home comforts.

Prison should not be a soft option. It should be a tough place so no one will feel like re-offending, until then crime will continue to soar.
