ROSSENDALE RUFC22

RUGBY ROUND-UP

Lowe puts Rossendale on a high

RAGGED Rossendale overcame an indifferent first half display to enjoy a victory on their travels.

Despite getting off to a flying start, scoring a try within five minutes, Dale dithered in possession and lost too many scrums and line-outs.

Centre Gary Allen got Dale off to a great start scoring under the posts which John Spencer converted with ease.

Dale were guilty of giving away too many penalties but Trafford only managed to convert one, reducing the lead to 7-3 at the break.

Full back Steven Lowe took full advantage when he scythed through the Trafford midfield and scored outside the scrambling backline defence.

Spencer missed the conversion but made amends with an adventurous drop goal to put Dale 15-3 up.

Dale appeared to put the game to bed after scoring a third try but had to survive a late scare as Trafford hit back with two tries in the final 10 minutes.

The Seconds were called off at Preston due to a waterlogged pitch but the Third XV beat Broughton Thirds 18-11 at Marl Pits.

On Saturday, the Firsts are at home to Upper Eden, the Seconds go to Aldwinians and the Thirds travel to Littleborough.
