THE grateful parents of a premature baby have handed donations for their daughter's christening to the hospital unit where she was born.

Tracy and Andrew Wild asked family and friends to forget buying gifts for baby Georgia, telling them: "She's here and that's the most important thing to us."

The couple, of Pinewood Drive, Accrington, instead asked relatives to donate money to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Queen's Park Hospital.

Staff helped Georgia - born four weeks premature - through the first days of her life after it was discovered she had a low blood sugar level.

And thanks to the dedication of the nurses, Georgia is now nearly five months old and fighting fit.

The family were so touched by the high level of care they received and the unfaltering dedication of the nurses, they vowed to give something back.

They have now managed to raise £375 for the premature baby unit.

Tracy, 33, said: "We said to people, please don't buy her anything. We were quite surprised at how generous people were and how much we managed to raise in total.

"The level of care Georgia received during the days at the unit was amazing.

"We were very impressed with the dedication of the nurses.

"The special unit was really happy because any donation they receive manages to go such a long way to help with costs.

'We asked that the money should go towards buying new equipment."

Adele Kellie, manager of the NICU at Queen's Park Hospital, has thanked the Wild family.

She said: "I would like to thank Tracy and Andrew Wild for their donations.

"This is a kind gesture, which is much appreciated by staff, and will be used for the benefit of future babies and their families."
