ROSSENDALE manager Mark Molyneaux used last night's game as an opportunity to have a look at some of his fringe players, making eight changes from Saturday's starting line up.
But with Kendal fielding virtually a full strength side, they enjoyed the largest share of possession and chances.
Dale never gave up the fight though, despite playing the majority of the second half with 10 men as Mark Redshaw had to be withdrawn through injury after all three substitutions had been made.
The home side were 2-0 up inside eight minutes through Foster and Kenny Myers.
Dale got back into the game on 19 minutes when Redshaw capitalised on some slack defending to score from 12 yards.
Lee Ashcroft scored for Kendal three minutes into the second half. Myers then made it four with a free header before completing his hat-trick just before the hour.
Jamie Baguley came off the bench to give Dale more threat up front and scored his second goal in two games to reduce the arrears before Stuart Cartridge had a spectacular volley well saved.
Despite defeat, Dale still have a chance of cup success, dropping into the Chairman's Cup along with the rest of the UniBond League Cup First Round losers.
