RAMSBOTTOM marched into the next round of the FA Vase with a comfortable victory over north east side Consett.

Consett almost took a shock lead on seven minutes but Michael Ford dragged his shot tamely across goal.

On 32 minutes, Ramsbottom's Matt Edgington eventually created an opening and Michael Saunders fired home from four yards for his ninth of the season.

The pressure on the Consett goal increased towards the latter part of the half and the lead was almost doubled when Saunders felt he should have been awarded a penalty after being hauled down inside the box, even more so when the defender then appeared to handle the ball on the goal line.

A second goal arrived soon after the break when a clever move from Matt Edgington and Liam Denning found Saunders, who made no mistake by firing calmly into the bottom corner.

The only real action for Ramsbottom goalkeeper Mark Andrews was to divert a dangerous free kick away to safety.

After Consett striker Ford was sent off for a second bookable offence, the Rams eventually killed off the tie, deep into stoppage time, when Bernard Morley's deflected volley flew into the top corner to set up a lucrative trip to Skelmersdale United in the next round.

GREAT Harwood were knocked out of the Vase at Thornaby after failing to recover from Clark's 16th minute goal.
