THE letter last Friday from MEP Gary Titley was absolutely typical of the way in which the overpaid members of this superfluous layer of bureaucracy are searching desperately for ways of convincing us that the European Union is a good thing.

I have no problem with the single market, but it would work even better if it were not for the stream of regulations which flow from Brussels.

None of the benefits he enjoys are dependent on the proposed European Constitution.

As a free and sovereign nation, not yet reduced to the level of a regional state, we can at least choose to throw out the likes of Blair and Prescott at the next election if enough of us wish to do so.

Mr Prescott could then take advantage of those cheap holidays, Mr Blair seems to find bargains without even needing to be an MEP.
