ELDERLY and vulnerable residents who are afraid of being overcharged by cowboy builders can take advantage of a new scheme in Bury.
The Anchor Trust has a handyperson scheme - Anchor Staying Put which can make small repairs to homes for the cost of the materials and a £10 donation.
The scheme cannot, however, assist with gardening, decorating, mains electricity or gas.
Jobs likely to take more than two hours would be classed as "too big".
The part-time project was started in April 2000 and has completed some 900 jobs. It is available to those over he age of 60 or disabled. For more information, telephone 253 6861.
