LAST month I, like most in Blackburn, got a notice that the council was taking over responsibility for policing parking.
It promised to focus on illegal parking, especially those who park on double yellow lines, pavements and at corners. All these are parking violations that make driving for the rest of us dangerous.
My reaction was good, about time.
Now I find nothing has changed. I received a ticket costing £30 for being 10 minutes over, when parked in the town centre. The ticket was issued at 5.10pm. Okay I was 10 minutes late getting back.
On my way from the town centre, via Whalley Range, I observed more than 20 cars parked on double yellow lines, pavements and at corners. Not a ticket issued.
Those of us who try to obey the law and pay for parking are tired of being the easy victims of Blackburn's parking policies that totally ignore the parking violators causing danger.
Incidentally, I was parked in the centre, due to the residential parking outside my home on Swift Close being occupied by city centre workers - at least 50 per cent of whom are council employees.
If the council wants support for sensible parking, it should have the courage to tackle illegal parking, rather than targeting overtime violations by those trying to obey the law.
