POLICE are hunting a street robber who attacked a man with a plank of wood.
The 58-year-old victim suffered a suspected broken knuckle and bruising to the back of his head during the frenzied assault which happened shortly after 8pm on Friday in Tewkesbury Drive, Sedgley Park, Prestwich.
According to detectives, the victim noticed he was being followed by a man after he had left a confectionery shop.
He was then approached and stopped by the robber, who demanded his wallet and claimed he was armed with a knife.
The victim said he did not have any money, but offered the cakes he had just bought. The offender hit the victim several times with the two feet long piece of timber, before running off toward Kings Road.
The attacker was white, in his late teens or early 20s, 5ft 9 ins tall, slim, with fair hair and pale skin. He was wearing a dark blue/black anorak hooded top.
