SPEAKERS at the October meetings of Prestwich and Whitefield Afternoon TWG took members from South Africa to Eden.
Mr Tom Fish told of a visit he made to the former and of how, on one of his first days there, a stranger asked him if he was from Manchester. Not only had he recognised the Mancunian accent, but he was coincidentally from Prestwich a small world indeed!
Mr Fish described Victoria Falls, the Zambezi River and a crocodile breeding farm. He also told us that every antelopes stripes are different, in the same way as the fingerprints of a human being are unique.
A vote-of-thanks was given by Mrs A. Owens.
Mr Walter Mason illustrated his talk Snowdrops to Eden with superb photographs.
He began with snowdrops, of which there are 100 different varieties. Generations ago they were usually planted in the grounds of churches.
On a journey through central England, via Shropshire, into Wales, Mr Mason photographed many spectacular floral displays. Finally to Eden the project of course and a tour of the Tropical House.
A vote-of-thanks was given by Mrs M. Kinder.
