THEATRE company St Joseph's Players is casting its net far and wide for a new generation of amdram stars.
A number of new, younger players are already deep in rehearsals with the regulars for the pantomime Beauty and the Beast, being staged from January 19 to 29, but director Doreen Johnson is aware of the urgent need for new blood.
"Next year, we are planning four productions to follow our panto," she said.
"In March, we will stage a celebration to honour our long-time friend and producer, Dorothy Galvin, who died earlier this year.
"Then comes a trio of plays in April, June and September. We are determined to preserve our proud tradition of live theatre here in Leigh, but that puts a lot of pressure on our small band of players.
"We urgently need to bring in new people, particularly young men aged 18 and upwards."
If you are keen to join the oldest amdram company in the UK, contact Doreen on 01942 671977.
Rehearsals are held twice weekly on Monday and Thursday evenings.
St Joseph's welcomes anyone aged 18 years and over who would like to join the make-up, lighting, sound, catering or the sewing teams.
Doreen said: "We work hard but the rewards are worth all the effort.
"We have quite a good social life also, the Christmas Party is already booked."
Meanwhile, pantomime tickets priced £5 and £3.50 go on sale in December at Boardman's on Bradshawgate, Leigh.
For block bookings of 10 or more tickets, contact secretary June Lee on 01942 245058.
