I WONDER if any readers share my frustration over the farcical police operation which took place in Lancaster city centre last Thursday (October 21).
I left my house in Morecambe to drive to Lancaster at 8.10am, a journey which normally takes 25 minutes. But at 8.45am I had only reached the Kingsway baths.
And at the rear of the baths I found the cause of the delay - a police road checkpoint.
As I drove past I wound my window down and let a police officer know what I thought. I can only describe his attitude as superior as he told me to pull over and discuss my concerns.
I wonder what I hope to achieve by writing this letter - except as a means of venting my frustration - but I also think that we just accept these impositions far too easily.
I imagine the police will have had a good reason for carrying out the check, but the fact is that hundreds of innocent people were delayed because they chose to do it in the rush hour.
No doubt countless people arrived late for work, losing valuable time and costing businesses thousands of pounds in the process.
The pollution caused by cars not moving as a result of the exercise must also have doubled. Ridiculous!
