LANCASTER City's six-match unbeaten run came to a sudden end on Tuesday evening as they were beaten 2-0 at Worksop.

The Dolly Blues' second long trip in three days was always going to prove to be a tough test ahead of Saturday's FA Cup showdown - and the SandyLane clash saw Lancaster beached.

Worksop got off to a flying start with Jamie Speare saving well from Simeon Bambrook and Paul Dempsey. But he was powerless to prevent Worksop's opener from Blake Norton.

And three minutes later City were rocked further when the ball fell to Bambrook who blasted home after rounding Speare.

The over-worked goalkeeper made further good saves from Bambrook and Norton before City had their only attempt on goal during a one-sided first half - Steve Jones heading straight at the keeper after good work from Peter Thomson.

Ryan Elderton went close after the break for City, while Neil Prince set up Ryan Zico Black but his stunning snap-shot was met with an equally breathtaking save.

City finished the game with six men in attack to no avail and manager Phil Wilson lamented: "It was one of those games. We could have got something but two quick goals in the first half cost us."
