GOLBORNE Parkside's first team fixture against bottom placed Waterhead was called off because of a waterlogged pitch.
The second team visited high-flying Widnes St Maries and gave a good account of themselves despite unluckily going down 14-6.
The young Golborne team were 14-0 down at half time, despite injuries that seem to be dogging the club this season. They lost centre Craig Parr, who has starred this season.
Well led by man of the match Stuart Arkwright and Gary Dooney, Golborne took the second half 6-0 with a try from Adam Morris goaled by Arkwright. They were unlucky to have two chances ruled out as they dominated the second half with a powerful show from Allan Marsden.
On Saturday Golborne are at home to Oldham St Anne's in the first round of the NWCARL Cup (ko 2pm).
Golborne under-18s visited Blackbrook in the second round of the BARLA Lancashire Cup.
They put up a brave fight but lost to the cup holders 25-18 in a game that could have gone either way.
Golborne's tries came from Chris Reynolds, Paul Johnson and Stuart Goulding, who also kicked three goals.
All other junior games were postponed due to the weather.
