Leigh Miners Rangers 48 West Hull 16: LEIGH Miners Rangers re-wrote the record books with their biggest-ever win over the team that everyone wants to beat.

The Miners rattled up eight tries as they swept back to the top of the National Conference Premier Division.

Wests were competitive for over an hour and hinted at the recovery as they diminated the third quarter. But the Miners ran away with the game late on as Tommy Goulden, Dave Radley and Sean Phoenix guided the way to a comprehensive victory.

The Miners scored first when Steve Cooper went in at the corner, but Carl Moore responded for Wests when the defence fumbled a bomb.

It looked set to be a tight game until the Miners scored a burst of three tries just before half time. Goulden led the way with a strong break that saw Darren Pilkington score under the sticks before the GB captain claimed one of his own off Phoenix's break. Mark Baird pulled on back for Wests but a Tony Doyle break sent Phoenix racing in for a deserved 24-8 interval lead.

The second half scorline mirrored the first. Although Wests dominated the third quarter, they could score enough points to really worry the Miners. It was a full length Pilkington try that confirmed Leigh's win before they really cut loose in the last quarter.

Goulden blasted over for his second and then made the opening for Jim Thompson to send Shaun Daley sprinting in. Alan Reddicliffe rounded things off with their eighth try and Radley potted his eighth goal.
