A PROPOSED weight restriction on East Lancashire's notorious Grane Road has been welcomed by residents and councillors at a meeting.
Around 50 residents gathered at Rawtenstall's St Mary's Chambers for the Lancashire Local meeting.
An experimental lorry ban for vehicles over 7.5 tonnes between A6177 Elton Road and Grane Road, is now set to be trialed. Lancashire County Council has been asked to foot the bill for the amended signage which is set to cost around £7,000. Several serious crashes in recent weeks have sparked calls for additional safety measures on the road which was the subject of a Lancashire Evening Telegraph "Stop the Carnage Campaign." The campaign was launched after residents voiced their concerns about a rise in the number of accidents and people using the route as a "rat run" between the M66-M65.
